Blinded… a short poem for World Poetry Day

We let ourselves be blinded

By ignorance and hate

That keeps us narrow-minded

And leaves others to their fate

We let the hatred-mongers

Weave fairy tales of fear

“There are those amongst us

Who just don’t belong here”

They mix half-truth with anger

And take real people’s pain

And twist it with their stories

For their own hateful gain

And by the time we see it

It’s sadly far too late

They’ve taken back control

And we’re left to our fate.
